Greetings from Fourth Grade!
If you stopped any fourth grade student he/she would tell you that fourth grade is full of new and interesting topics. They would also tell you they are working harder than ever. We would like to let you know some of the topics that are taught in fourth grade and some upcoming events that we know about to date. Fourth grade math greatly depends on students knowing their multiplication facts. The students will be doing fractions and long division before the year’s end, which is why the students must know their facts. They will also be telling time, specifically elapsed time. They will also be representing and interpreting data on graphs and tables. In writing, we not only teach students to keep a central idea, how to revise and edit, but we develop a student’s style and voice throughout their writing. Fourth grade students have a reading goal to meet each nine weeks. In reading, we also strive to get the students thinking about their reading. We teach the students quality reading strategies, some of which students already do but may not be aware that they do them. Some of these strategies are making connections, predictions, visualizing, and asking questions as you read. Fourth grade students should be reading at a minimum of 10-15 minutes each night, independently or with someone. We are looking forward to a fun and successful year in fourth grade. Thank you in advance for your help at home!
Educationally yours,
